Fair Trade In Todays SocietyFairtrade is the start of a new era, it has been up and coming for decades but this centuary and the awareness of global and environmental issues, means that todays society can no longer support the unethical support of child labour, sweat shop industries, and farming. Fair trade is heard of every day, but does everybody know that buying fair trade products, means that you are supporting the marginalized people in society by paying a fair price for the goods they produce, to ensure them of a good livelihood and education for themselves and their families. Fair trade farming is where the farmer is paid to use eco-friendly practices, so it is more than just being paid a fair price for their products, it incorporates trade, but also the terms of trade, by building long term relationships/partnerships with the farmers. Fair trade offers the stability and investment into a community, and so helps the community to stop the need of sweat shop industries, and child labour, as their regular income needs are being met under the fair trade partnerships, this stops the desperation of child labour, thus enabling the children to be fed and educated, without the need to work, as the livelihoods are being met by the adults in the family. To buy fair trade is to ensure that all the people involved in the making/growing of the product have been supported in a socially concious and ethical manner, making the quality of the good so much more viable. |
